Babin allows one earne runs in five-inning complete game

Murray State played small ball on Tuesday afternoon as they took advantage of wet and rainy conditions to defeat Southern Illinois, 5-2, in a five-inning rain-shortened game at Reagan Field.
The Breds (10-13) got on the board in the first inning as Ty Stetson drew a four-pitch walk and Brandon Elliott followed with a bunt base hit. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Travis Isaak, Jacob Rhodes hit a grounder that went through the legs of the first baseman, scoring a pair of runs.
The Salukis (6-17) got a run back in the second as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Jake Welch plated a run with a slow groundout to shortstop.
MSU took advantage of a pair of walks in the second inning to Paul Ritzheimer and Elliot Frey. With two outs, Stetson delivered an RBI single up the middle and Elliott followed with a run-scoring base hit through the left side.
The Breds added a run in the fourth as Frey doubled down the left-field line and scored when Stetson beat out a bunt single and the throw was up the first-base line.
SIU took advantage of the wet conditions to score an unearned run in the fifth as Wes Neece reached on a throwing error that was caused by the wet grass. After a groundout moved the runner to second, Brock Harding blooped an RBI single to left center.
Bryan Babin (2-1) earned the victory after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits in the five-inning complete game. Andrew Bever (1-2) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks over 2.1 innings.
Stetson led the offense by going 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI and run scored. Elliott went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Breds return to the diamond Saturday afternoon as they travel to UT Martin for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
