Offense looking to pick up where it left off last season

The offense may be the same, but the man calling the plays has changed, as Mitch Stewart has taken the reigns as the team's offensive coordinator this season. Stewart also made the switch to coaching the quarterbacks, after serving as the wide receiver coach last season.
“It has been fun,” said Stewart. “The staff has been good and the kids have been good. This is something I have looked forward to doing for a while and just trying to pick up where we left off last season.”
The 15 practices during the Spring are allowing Stewart to get adapted to calling plays, as well as the players making the adjustment to Stewart's play calling.
“I have been in it for a while, whether it was playing or coaching in it, so it is becoming a little bit more natural to me, but it does take some getting used to,” added Stewart.
The Racers offense continued to get on the same page Friday afternoon as the team went through its seventh practice on the turf at Stewart Stadium.
The first-team offense got things going during Bandit as they were able to score three times during the 10 plays. The biggest play came when Casey Brockman found Walter Powell streaking down the field for a 70-yard touchdown. A few plays later, Mike Harris broke through the line for a 45-yard score. The drive ended with Hannibal Beauford taking a short pace and making a move to avoid a tackler and score from five-yards out.
The Racers return to the field tomorrow morning as they conduct their first scrimmage of the season. Practice is set to get underway at 9 a.m. Fans are encouraged to attend any and all practices this Spring.
