Racers Close Out Spring With Annual Blue-Gold Bowl

The Murray State football team closed out the Spring Thursday evening with the annual Blue-Gold Bowl sponsored by Woodmen of the World.
The Blue Team got on the board on their opening possession with quarterback Casey Brockman breaking free on a 33-yard run on the first play. Following a 20-yard run from Mike Harris, Brockman found Walter Powell for a five-yard touchdown.
The Gold Team was able to get on the board later in the quarter as Spencer Phillips found Carson Beyers over the middle for 14 yards, before hitting Powell in the back of the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown.
Nathan Brinkley gave the Gold Team the lead as he stepped in front of a pass and returned it 41 yards for the touchdown.
Dexter Durrante carried the load on the next series as he picked up a fourth down with a nine-yard run, before picking up 17 more yards on three consecutive carries. The drive would stall, but Jordan Benton stepped onto the field and converted a 45-yard field goal.
The scoring continued on the next series as Graham Craig hit Powell for a 23-yard completion, and then later found Powell for his third touchdown catch of the game, this time from six-yards out.
The final score of the game came when Joey Howe found a leaping Arthur Brackett in the back of the endzone for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Racers will return to the practice field at the beginning of August in preparation for the 2011 opener Sept. 1 at Louisville at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
