BOX SCORE
Murray State looked to be heading for its third straight OVC win Sunday afternoon, but a nine run fourth inning from Morehead State led to the Racers dropping a 15-7 decision in Morehead, Ky.
The Racers manufactured a pair of runs in the top of the first as Megan Glosser led off the frame with a single past the glove of the diving Morehead 3rd baseman. She came in to score after stealing three bases, including a steal of home after Jenna Bradley went halfway between first and second, drawing a throw to second base and allowing Glosser to score without a play at home. After Bradley advanced to third on a wild pitch, Ellyn Troup hit a one-hopper over third to put Murray State up 2-0.
Murray State (9-19, 4-9 OVC) continued the hit barrage in the second inning, scoring four more runs. Meghan Sims doubled deep into the gap in left center, advancing Stephanie Mattocks to third with nobody out. Taylor Wilson grounded out to first, allowing Mattocks to score from third. Glosser drove in a second run of the inning, lining a ball back up the middle of the infield to score Sims from second. Stephanie Edwards advanced her to second after taking a low pitch off the top of her foot, and both runners scored when Bradley roped a double down the left field line and was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play as the Racers took a 6-0 lead through one and a half innings.
Morehead State (11-24, 5-9) took advantage of some Murray State defensive miscues in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring nine runs on just four hits and four Racer errors. The Eagles crossed the plate four more times in the fifth inning as seven of the first eight batters in the inning safely reached base to take a 13-6 lead.
Murray State added one back in the top of the sixth as Troup hit her fourth home run of the season and third of the weekend to left field.
The Eagles ended the game in their half of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded.
Chelsey Sullivan took the loss in relief, dropping to 4-11 on the season after allowing nine runs, seven earned, in 1.1 innings.
Ashley Boyd won her first game of the season for Morehead, entering in the bottom of the second and allowing three runs through three innings.
Glosser led the Racers with three hits in four at bats and a pair of runs scored on the day.
The Racers return home Tuesday, April 5, for a non-conference doubleheader against Belmont. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
