The Murray State football team went through a business-like workout Thursday afternoon as the Racers conducted their 10th practice of the Spring on the turf at Stewart Stadium.
“We were business-like today,” said head coach Chris Hatcher. “We didn't play with the excitement and energy level that we practiced with the previous nine times. We are getting a little tired and a little nicked up. Some positions we are very thin, especially at linebacker. Hopefully tomorrow will be better than today. We will workout in helmets tomorrow and hopefully rest up for a big scrimmage on Saturday.”
The Racers continued to develop a depth chart leading into summer camp as all players audition for playing team in the Fall. Competition in every drill highlights each practice with every player being evaluated on every snap.
MSU went through their normal individual and team drills on Thursday, including work on special teams. This practice emphasized kickoff and kickoff return.
Despite being far ahead of where they were at this point last year, coach Hatcher knows that there is still plenty of room to improve.
“I will never be where I want to be,” said Hatcher. “I think as far as our operation standpoint, the expectations we have of our players has made things go a lot smoother this Spring. “We still have a lot of work to do. We have to find us some leaders and become a tougher football team.”
The Racers return to the field Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in helmets only. The teams is set to hold a scrimmage Saturday morning at 8:50 a.m. at Stewart Stadium.
