Top 10 FCS Quarterbacks
Murray State junior-to-be quarterback Casey Brockman was named to The Sports Network FCS Top 10 Quarterbacks list that was released on Wednesday. This is the first of an eight-part series featuring the best Football Championship Subdivision players at various positions.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) started only six games last season, but managed to pass for 2,442 yards and 15 touchdowns. He made the first start a memorable one as he went 32-of-41 for a school-record 570 yards and seven touchdowns in a thrilling come-from-behind 72-51 victory over Missouri State. He followed that up by setting a single-game completions record when he completed 41 passes in a victory over Eastern Illinois.
He nearly became the first quarterback to pass for 500 yards twice in the same season and he went for 497 yards and three touchdowns against Austin Peay. Brockman closed out the season by becoming the second quarterback in school history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game when he threw for 300 yards and rushed for 112 yards in a victory over Tennessee State.
The Sports Network's Assessment of Brockman:
Casey Brockman, Murray State, Jr., 6-2, 205 - Brockman will put up big numbers in coach Chris Hatcher's spread attack, as last year's 570-yard, seven- touchdown game against Missouri State and 497-yard, three-touchdown outing against Austin Peay attest. He is mentally and physically tough and a competitor whom teammates rally around. Last year, he led the Ohio Valley Conference with 271.3 passing yards per game, completing 213-of-320 attempts (66.6 percent) for 2,442 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine games. He's also mobile, having rushed for seven touchdowns.
