Racers Picked Second in Preseason OVC Football Poll

The Murray State football team was picked to finish second in the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll, conducted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The poll was announced at the league's annual Media Day held Monday at the Holiday Inn Nashville.
The Racers received four first-place votes and 106 points overall. Jacksonville State was the preseason favorite, receiving 13 first-place votes, and 123 points overall. Eastern Kentucky was picked to finish third (93 points), while defending champion Southeast Missouri was picked fourth (1 first-place vote, 81 points).
Tennessee Tech was selected fifth (73 points), and was followed by UT Martin (64 points), Eastern Illinois (57 points), Tennessee State (33) and Austin Peay (18).
The Racers finished the 2010 season with a 6-5 record, including finishing fourth in the league with a 5-3 mark. MSU was playing its best ball at the end of the season as they won five of their last six games, and averaged 44 points per game over that stretch.
MSU opens the 2011 season on Sept. 1 as they travel to face Louisville. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
