Important facility enhancements continue for Racer Athletics. As a result of a commitment from the Racer Foundation Executive Board, work has been completed on a new players lounge for football and a relocation of the Hall of Fame from Stewart Stadium to the CFSB Center. In addition, work has also been completed at Stewart Stadium to replace all 1,100 of the worn out premium chairback seats.
“I want to thank Chuck Jones and the members of the Racer Foundation Executive Board,” said Director of Athletics Allen Ward. “The financial commitment from the Racer Foundation has allowed us to complete these important projects.”
Recently, the Racer Foundation Board agreed to release $160,000 to Murray State Athletics. These funds were the majority of the liquid assets held by the Racer Foundation since its operational scope changed back in 2005. Moving ahead, the Racer Foundation will continue to own and manage two attractive parcels of land in Hopkinsville, that when sold, will substantially benefit Racer Athletics.
“The Racer Foundation has invested substantially in Racer Athletics over the years and this gift is just another example of the successful partnership between the university and the foundation,” said Chuck Jones, President and CEO of C.A. Jones Management Group, LLC and Chair of the Racer Foundation Executive Committee. “The Board believed it would be a good use of the remaining funds to allow the athletic department to complete these projects. Our objective now will be to effectively manage the Hopkinsville property so that Racer Athletics receives the greatest benefit from its proceeds.”
In addition to the new chairback seating and football renovations, work has begun on a new premium parking lot adjacent to the CFSB Center. The new lot, with approximately 110 new parking spaces, will provide much needed parking for home football and basketball games. “Premium parking is one of the most important benefits to our annual donors” said Ward. “The ability to offer additional premium parking will allow for continued growth in our annual giving and Racer Club membership.” Fans can learn more about Racer Club membership by calling (270) 809-3369.
Ward also wants to recognize the efforts of Coach Hatcher and his staff. “Coach Hatcher and his staff have done an amazing job on the football lounge, the team meeting rooms, and locker room projects,” Ward said. “They have spent countless hours doing a lot of the work themselves, often working into the early morning. It's been a complete transformation and all the credit goes to Coach Hatcher, his staff, and the team. They've worked extremely hard to put a new face on Racer football and I want to thank them publically.”
And maybe the most anticipated project, the new basketball practice facility, continues to progress on schedule. The university selected Hastings & Chivetta as the architect for the project and official design work began several months ago. “Things are moving along nicely. Kim Oatman, David Brickeen and the folks from Hastings & Chivetta are great to work with. We've made good progress to this point and hopefully we'll be moving dirt by late October or early November,” said Ward.
