Offensive Line Continues to Improve

After entering the 2010 season as one of the major question marks surrounding the Murray State football team, the Racers offensive line turned into one of the top five offensive lines in the country, according to one college football blog. The Racers return all five starters this season and look to improve on the impressive numbers put up a season ago.
The offensive line helped the Racers amass nearly 5,000 yards of total offense, with nearly 3,500 yards coming through the air.
The unit helped the Racer ground attack rush for over 200 yards in three games, including rushing for 300 yards in the victory over Tennessee Tech.
Junior Brock Rydecki returns at the center spot after starting the final 10 games of last season.
Junior Andy Mahoney returns at right guard after starting all 11 games a season ago.
Senior Elbert Ojendis began last season as a backup at both tackle spots, but spent the final three games as the starter at left guard.
The tackle positions were constant throughout the season as the duo of Roderick Tomlin and Raymond Hopson combined to start 13 of the 14 contests.
The junior Tomlin has been a mainstay on the offensive line as he has started the last 15 games. Senior Hopson has started 21 games during his career at MSU.
Sophomore Harris Bivin started the season opener at Kent State last season and will push Rydecki for the starting spot at center.
Newcomers Drew Kelley and Trevor Wallace have impressed during camp and will push for playing time this season.
Tuesday Practice Notes
• The Racers practiced in full pads this morning. The team will return to the field at 6 p.m. this evening.
• Head Coach Chris Hatcher was pleased with the effort on both sides of the ball.
• The defense forced three turnovers during blitz pick-up. Cornerback Dontrell Johnson intercepted a pair of passes, while Darrell Davis picked off another.
• Wide receiver Patrick Robertson scored on a running play from 25-yards out.
• Wide receiver Ricky Mitchell caught a 45-yard pass from Graham Craig on the final play on blitz pick-up.
• Linebacker TJ Denson picked off a pass off a deflected ball and returned it for a touchdown during Bandit.
