The Murray State football team held their second practice in helmets only, Thursday morning on the turf at Stewart Stadium. The Racers moved the practice up one hour to get in more work before the weather got too hot.
“We had better tempo today and everybody knew where to go,” said head coach Chris Hatcher. “We saw some good things from both sides of the ball. I think Darrian Skinner picked up where he left off. Patrick Robertson made some good plays at wide receiver. But it is still very early in camp, and we are working a lot of combinations. The weather was a little bit better today than it was yesterday, and I think we are progressing along nicely.”
The Racers continued to work on their basic packages and fundamentals as they get acclimated to practice. The tempo will continue to pick as the team puts on the should pads for the first time on Friday.
“It is a lot different when you put on the shoulder pads,” said Hatcher. “I want to see us continue to fly around. I want to see if guys are going to be physical. I want to see if some guys will put their face in there when the pads come on.”
During the bandit period, corner Victor Daniels made the biggest play by stepping front of a pass in the flat and returning it 68 yards for a touchdown.
The Racers return to the practice field Thursday morning as they put the shoulder pads on for the first time. Practice is set to begin at 9:10 a.m. and is open to the public.
