After putting together one of the best aerial displays in FCS history, Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman has been honored as the player of the week by five national organizations. He was named the Co-National Player of the Week by The Sports Network, the National Player of the Week by the College Sporting News, FCSfootballnetwork.com and collegesportsmadness.com, and National Quarterback of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. It marks the third time in the past two seasons that Brockman was honored on the national level.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) broke four school records in leading the Racers to a 58-27 victory over Tennessee State in the 2011 home opener. He finished the game 45-of-67 for 600 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass. The 45 completions establishes a new single-game Ohio Valley Conference mark, while the yards and touchdowns breaks his own marks set against Missouri State last season.
Brockman became just the fifth quarterback in FCS history to throw for 600 yards in a game, while setting an FCS record by throwing for 422 yards in the first half. His 45 completions also tie for the 10th most in FCS history.
The junior has tossed for more than 300 yards five times in his career, and owns three of the top four passing yardage performances in school history. Last season, Brockman threw for 570 yards and seven touchdowns against Missouri State. Four weeks later, he threw for 497 yards and three scores against Austin Peay.
Brockman already ranks eighth on the school's career list for completions, yards and touchdowns, while ranking ninth in attempts.
