Johnson to Participate in Casino del Sol All-Star Game

Former Murray State All-American punt returner Dontrell Johnson has been selected to play in the 2012 Casino del Sol All-Star Game on Monday, January 16 at Kino Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Arizona and its affiliates.
Johnson (Moultrie, Ga.) will play for the Stars team that will be coached by former Racer head coach Houston Nutt. Former Fresno State head coach Pat Hill will coach the Stripes team.
Johnson will get a chance to show off skills in all three phases as he will play both cornerback and wide receiver, as well as returning kicks. Johnson battled injuries his senior year, but still led the OVC with 12 passes defended. Despite playing with a cast on his right hand, Johnson intercepted a pass against SEMO that helped set up a touchdown just before halftime. He added 40 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, and blocked an extra point against Eastern Kentucky. He also averaged 16.2 yards on 10 punt returns. For his efforts, Johnson earned second-team all-OVC honors as a defensive back and return specialist.
As a junior, Johnson earned All-America honors after leading the FCS with a 22.8 yard average on punt returns. He returned punts for scores in back-to-back games against UT Martin (91 yards) and Jacksonville State (71 yards). He added 67 tackles, eight pass break-ups and two interceptions, one of which was returned 24 yards for a touchdown against Austin Peay. Johnson also blocked a pair of kicks against Tennessee Tech.
