Racers Host Pivotal Weekend Matches

The Murray State soccer team returns home to the friendly confines of Cutchin Field for its final four games of the season. The first pair of those games will be played this weekend. On Friday, the Racers host Jacksonville State at 3 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon Tennessee Tech comes to town for a p.m. kickoff.
The Racers are looking to sneak into the sixth and final playoff spot to make the OVC Tournament at the end of the season, making their matches this weekend must wins. MSU is currently seven points behind Jacksonville State for the sixth seed.
Murray State is 5-3-1 all-time against the Gamecocks. Last season, the two played to a 0-0 draw in Jacksonville. Yi Du recorded the shutout for the Racers in the match. The Gamecocks are led by a pair of talented forwards in Courtney Hurt and Kelsey Bright who have seven goals and six goals, respectively. Goalkeeper Katelyn Geddings is solid in net, recording five shutouts this year.
The Racers are 6-6-1 in program history against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech. Last season, MSU was victorious on the road 2-1, with Julie Mooney getting a goal for the Racers in the win. Head Coach Beth Acreman is a perfect 6-0 all-time against TTU.
The Golden Eagles are led by junior forward Ellie Iaciofano who has an OVC-leading eight goals this season.
Murray State will be playing just its second and third OVC home contests of the season over the weekend. The Racers lost a tough 2-1 battle to Belmont in their home conference-opener earlier this month. Senior Jenelle Cunningham recorded her first career goal in the loss.
