Racers Place Two In MSU Invitational Top-10

The Murray State Racers placed Hunter York and Patrick Newcomb in seventh place, but couldn't hold their four-shot lead in the final round of the MSU Invitational field at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky., to come home with a third place finish.
The Racers carded scores of 283-289=572 and finished in third place behind winner Union (TN) at 568 and Lipscomb at 569.
York and Newcomb each carded scores of 71-70=141 and just missed a six-way sudden death playoff for medalist honors. Preston French placed 14th with rounds of 72-72=144, while Tyler Brown was 17th after scores of 69-77=146. Jordan Smith had scores of 78-77=155 and placed 55th.
The Racers' second team finished ninth with rounds of 311-290=601 and was led by the trio of Daniel Harper, Duncan McCormick and Brock Simmons who shared 30th place. Harper had scores of 78-71=149, McCormick had rounds of 77-72=149 and Simmons had scores of 76-73=149. Wade Thompson was in 51st place with rounds of 80-74=154, with Jared Gosser was in 55th place with scores of 80-75=155.
MSU's Travis Thompson played as an individual and placed 47th with scores of 77-76=153.
Belmont placed fourth at 576, while John A. Logan (583), UT Martin (585), Morehead State (590), UTM B (596), MSU B (601) and Kentucky Wesleyan (607) rounded out the top-10. Christian Brothers (609), Brescia (612), Bethel (TN) (619) and Bethel B (641) rounded out the field.
A six-way playoff between Dustin Wilder & Blanton Farmer of Lipscomb. Brett Barry & Kody Alexander of Union, Tucker Guisewite of John A. Logan and Elliott Wickeden of Belmont ensued after they all tied at 140. The playoff was eventually decided on the fourth hole when Farmer beat out Barry for medalist honors.
The Racers' were looking for their ninth straight MSU Invitational, but with the loss, their third place finish marked the first time they failed to win their own event that started in 2004.
Miller Memorial is played to a par of 71 and 6,601 yards.
