Brockman Finishes 6th in Walter Payton Award Voting

After re-writing the Murray State record books, quarterback Casey Brockman placed sixth in the voting for the 2012 Walter Payton Award. The award honors the top offensive player at the FCS level. Brockman finished 11th in the 2011 voting.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) received eight first-place votes and 139 total points. His eight first-place votes are the second-most among the results that were released.
The 26th Walter Payton Award will be handed out on Dec. 17 in Philadelphia, Pa. The three finalists invited to the ceremony were Old Dominion quarterback Tyler Heinicke, Wofford running back Eric Breitenstein and Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet.
Brockman closed out his record-setting career by going 359-for-517 for 3,729 yards and 28 touchdowns. He set school records for attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns and total offense (3,802), while setting OVC records for attempts, completions and total offense. On the ground, Brockman rushed for 73 yards and seven touchdowns.
The All-America signal caller threw at least two touchdowns in eight games this season, including throwing for a school and OVC record eight TDs against UT Martin. He also threw for over 300 yards seven times.
After coming to MSU as a walk-on and starting the final three games of his freshman season, Brockman went on to put together one of the most impressive careers in school history. He holds every single career passing record for MSU, while staking claim to numerous conference records.
