Berry, Mix Earn OVC Weekly Honors

Murray State picked up a pair of adidas Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors on Sunday as running back Jaamal Berry earned newcomer honors, while punter Steven Mix earned specialist accolades.
Berry (Miami, Fla.) earned his third newcomer honor after rushing for a career-best 163 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 carries. He scored on runs of 35, five and one as the Racers knocked off #18 Tennessee State.
After closing out the first half scoring with a 35-yard touchdown run with 1:44 remaining in the second quarter, Berry came out in the second half and paced the offense by rushing for 99 yards and two scores on 10 carries.
Berry pulled the Racers within one point in the third quarter with his five-yard touchdown run. After a Racer interception, Berry set up a MSU touchdown by picking up 64 yards on two carries. He put the game away with 3:05 remaining as he gained 18 yards on the three-play drive, with the final carry being a one-yard touchdown run.
Mix (Barlow, Ky.) earned his first career honor after averaging 43.3 yards on his three punts. He kicked a long of 55 yards, and had all three of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line. His lone punt in the first half came in the final seconds as his 33-yard punt was downed at the 15.
Mix boomed a 55 yard punt in the third quarter that was mishandled and the Tigers took over at their own one yard line. His third punt of the game came midway through the fourth when his 42 yard punt was fair caught at the eight yard line.
On the season, Mix is averaging 40.6 yards on 46 punts. He has had 15 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and has boomed seven punts over 50 yards.
