Freshman Kelsey Dirks of the Murray State women's basketball team was named as the adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week for games played December 3-9, the league office announced on Tuesday. Dirks' honor marks the third-straight week that a Racer freshman has won the award, with teammate Erika Sisk having won the two previous.
Along with Sisk, Dirks led all-scorers with a career-high 20 points in Murray State's 110-28 win over Mid-Continent last week. The freshman from Robinson, Ill., also had a game-high 11 rebounds to notch her second straight double-double.
Shooting-wise, Dirks turned in one of her best performances of the season, by going 9-for-11 or 81.8 percent. From the charity stripe, she was equally as effective, finishing the night a perfect 2-for-2.
Dirks is now the fifth MSU freshman to claim the award, according to OVC records that date back to the 2006-07 season, joining former Racer Jenny Petrie and teammates Mariah Robinson, Jessica Winfrey, and Sisk.
Murray State will return to action on Sunday when they host Alabama A&M in the final game of a six-game home stand. Tip-off is scheduled for noon and will be immediately followed by the men's team taking on Western Kentucky.
