Central Arkansas scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in handing Murray State a 16-6 defeat in the final game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Bear Stadium.
The Bears (4-6) took advantage of wildness in the mound to push across seven runs in the first inning. After the first batter was retired, the next four hitters walked to plate one run. A hit batter scored the second run, before Michael Marietta had the first hit of the inning by blooping an RBI single into right field. Blake Roberts delivered the big blow with a grand slam to left center.
The Breds (8-4) got a pair of runs back in the second as Cody Larson started the inning with a bunt base hit to third. With two outs, Colton Speed doubled to left center and Ty Stetson plated both runners with a single through the left side.
MSU added another run in the third inning as Travis Isaak started the inning with a walk and came around to score on a Jacob Rhodes single up the middle.
UCA got the run back in the home-half on a Griffin Glaude solo home run to right field.
The Bears extended the lead again in the fifth on an RBI single by Forrestt Allday, a two-run single off the bat of Ethan Harris and an RBI single from Travis Snider.
The Breds pushed across another run in the sixth as Larson tripled to right center and scored on Dylan Wheeler's single through the right side.
After UCA got two more runs in the sixth, MSU got on the board again in the seventh as Mike Kozlowski started the inning with a double to right center and scored on Larson's two-run home run to left field.
Tim Vonder Haar (1-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on four walks and a hit batter in one-third of an inning. Ryan Angus (1-1) earned the victory after allowing four runs on nine hits and four strikeouts over six innings.
Larson led the offense by going 3-for-5 with a triple, home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Stetson, Elliott, Kozlowski, Wheeler and Speed each added two hits.
The Breds return to action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to face future OVC opponent Belmont. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
