Murray State dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday afternoon as Belmont delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand the Breds a 3-2 defeat.
Zac Mitchell started the two-out rally with a single to center field and came in to score on Jared Breen's double to the base of the fence in left center.
The Bruins (8-5) got on the board in the fourth inning as a single and a double put runners on second and third with no outs. Judah Akers followed with a sacrifice fly to right center, and was followed by a Matt Beaty sacrifice fly to left center.
The Breds (8-5) got a run back in the fifth as Paul Ritzheimer delivered a leadoff home run deep to left field.
MSU added an unearned run in the sixth as Cody Larson was hit by a pitch with two outs. Luke Daugherty followed by reaching on an error before Ritzheimer delivered an RBI single to left field.
The Breds got solid pitching throughout the game as three pitchers combined to allow just five hits. Bryan Babin got the start and allowed two runs on two hits over five innings. Will Handlin followed by allowing one hit in his only inning of work. Alex Gordon (1-1) was saddled with the loss despite retiring the first 11 hitters he faced.
Austin Coley (1-0) earned the victory after allowing just one hit over three innings.
Ritzheimer led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Breds return to the diamond Friday afternoon as they host Purdue in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
