The Murray State Football team finished their 2012 spring workouts with the annual Blue-Gold Bowl Saturday evening at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
In a scrimmage that had 92 snaps and lasted two quarters, the MSU Gold team came away with a 27-7 win.
“We really tackled well this spring, we missed a couple tonight, but we're a little more athletic than we have been the last two seasons,” MSU Head Coach Chris Hatcher said. “Tonight I wanted to see what a few guys could do, and a few guys to go out and play like they normally play. Right now our biggest concern is depth. That's what hurt us last season and our first season. Until we get this class (2012) in, our depth will be very limited.”
In unofficial totals, returning senior quarterback Casey Brockman threw a pair of touchdown passes to Walter Powell and Ja-Vonta Trotter. Brockman was 18-of-27 for 269 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Trotter had six catches for 92 yards. One of his touchdowns was a wild play where he picked up a fumble at the 4-yard line after the ball was rushed from the 7-yard line. Powell had six catches for 64 yards.
In the running game, Nikkous Moore carried the ball 15 times for 60 yards, while Duane Brady rushed 10 times for 40 yards. Bradey also caught six passes for 82 yards.
The Racers now look forward to early August when they start preseason camp in preparation for their opener at Florida State (Sep. 1). MSU's home opener is against Central Arkansas at Stewart Stadium (Sep. 8). MSU's Family Weekend will have MSU's home game (Sep. 29) against Tennessee Tech as part of the events, while MSU's homecoming game is against UT Martin (Oct. 13).
