Women's Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season With 7-0 Win At Morehead

The Murray State women's tennis squad finished the regular season with a 7-0 win Saturday at Morehead State at the Sadler Tennis Courts in Morehead, Ky.
The Racers end the regular season at 11-10 overall and 6-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
“With the OVC Tournament coming up next weekend in Nashville, this was good to see our team to build some momentum,” MSU Head Coach Kara Amundson said. “We've played well in the last month and I know we'll be excited to play in the conference championship.”
The Racers started the match by taking the doubles point on wins in all three matches. Cassidy Cunitz teamed with Ashley Canty for an 8-6 win, while Carla Suga and Carolyn Huerth won by the same score. Ashley Pierson and Jordana Klein added an 8-4 win.
MSU swept six singles matches from the Eagles starting with Cunitz who was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 winner over Alix Young. Canty won 6-4, 6-3 over Morehead's Alexis Garrett, while Klein defeated Victoria Cran 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Suga was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Jessica Montemayor. Huerth won her match 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 over Brooke Helms and Pierson defeated Shilpa Narkua 8-5.
The OVC Tennis Championships return to Nashville for the first time since 2008 this season. The event will once again be held at the Centennial Tennis Center after being held in Paducah, Ky. each of the past three years. The women's championship is being contested for the 36th time (it was first held in 1977).
The Racers will be looking for their first title since 2007.
