Murray State softball continues its 14-game homestand this week, hosting Campbellsville for one game Thursday, Apr. 18 at 3 p.m. before Austin Peay comes to town for a three-game set Saturday, Apr. 21 and Sunday, Apr. 22., with games beginning at 1 p.m. both days.
The Racers took two of three against Morehead State, defeating the Eagles 13-4 and 9-3 Saturday afternoon, before falling 10-9 in eight innings Sunday. Mandi Kellerman hit her first two home runs of the season in the doubleheader sweep Saturday as the Racers pounded out five home runs in the two games. Murray State rebounded Sunday from a 6-1 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 8-8, but gave up a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, and were only able to grab one back in the bottot half of the inning.
SCOUTING CAMPBELLSVILLE
Cambellsville enters Thursday's single game looking to break a four-game losing streak. The NAIA-member school is currently sitting in fourth place in the Mid-South Conference with a 14-7 league mark and a 32-18 overall record this season. This is the first time the two schools have met.
Kristin Benton leads the Tigers with a .412 batting average through 50 games this season. She also leads the team with 18 doubles and 14 walks, and is second on the squad with eight home runs and 36 RBI.
Courtney Turpin leads the Cambellsville pitching staff, holding a 17-9 record in 154.1 innings pitched. She holds a team-leading 2.13 earned run average. Taylor Wroe is right behind with a 14-3 record in 24 games pitched with a 2.51 ERA.
SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay enters play this week looking for its first win in eight games. The Lady Govs have dropped six straight OVC contests and currently sit in ninth place in the league with a 6-15 record.
The Racers took two of three from APSU last season in Clarksville, Tenn. The all-time record between the two teams sits at 3-3, with Austin Peay having won two of three in Murray in the Racers first season of competition.
Lauren deCastro leads the Lady Govs in a number of hitting categories, pacing the team with a .380 batting average, 23 runs scored, eight doubles, 22 RBI, 12 walks, and is also tied for the team lead with five home runs.
deCastro also is tops on the pitching staff with a 2.97 earned run average in 68.1 innings pitched with a 4-5 record. Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs with six wins on the season in 119.2 innings, making 28 appearances and 13 starts.
