NACMA Awards List
For the first time at Murray State University, athletics marketing pieces were recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) as "Best of the Year" Awards at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention held June 22-28 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
The silver medal winning entry for the Racers came in the Interactive/Social Media Program. MSU Athletic's efforts on GoRacers.com, Facebook, and Twitter to get Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Vitale to call the telecast of the BracketBusters game against St. Mary's earned the Silver Award. On Facebook, fans were asked to change their profile picture to match the athletic department's page and those who participated were randomly chosen to win a t-shirt. Twitter followers of Racer Athletics were asked to use the hashtag #BringDickieVtoMurray in their tweets.
“This is a nice recognition by our peers of the efforts put forth this year in our marketing department, said Paul Bubb, Associate Athletics Director. “Morris White, Director of Marketing and Promotions has done a great job in spreading the word about Racer Athletics and improving the fan experience at our games.”
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based on basketball conference membership. Murray State competes in group two where an association-record of more than 950 entries were received for the 2011-12 school year.
The 13 award categories were: Interactive/Social Media Program, New Revenue-Generating Idea, Promotional T-Shirt Design, Promotional/Schedule Poster, Radio Commercial, Sales Piece, Season Ticket Sales Campaign, Single Newspaper Display Ad, Single-Day Attendance Promotion, Sponsorship Program, Student Promotion, Video Board Segment, and Video Promotion.
“It is an honor to be recognized nationally for our efforts and Racer fans should be proud as they were the driving force behind the promotion,” said Morris White, Director of Marketing and Promotions. “To be the only Ohio Valley Conference representative recognized at the NACMA awards is very humbling. Our department will continue to give our fans the best game day experience possible and be among the best in the nation.”
