The knock on the Racers the past few years for not being able to stop the run. The season, Murray State brings an experienced group that is set to cause havoc in the opponents backfield.
The anchor of the line is senior defensive end Kevin Robinson. Robinson had at least one sack in four of the final games of the season, including a sack, forced fumble and recovery late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory against Eastern Illinois. He closed out the season with three tackles-for-loss and a pair of sacks against SEMO.
Junior Ayo Ojolola has worked hard in the offseason and is coming off a season in which he tripled his tackles from his first season. He earned his first start against MVSU and responded with a season-best four tackles. He later equalled that mark with four stops against Jacksonville State.
Junior Adrian Dinkins transferred at semester and looks to play a major role as a pass rusher this season. Dinkins came from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he earned honorable mention all-state honors in helping the Bulldogs to a 10-2 record.
Freshman Zach Dean joins the team after recording 93 tackles, 22 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks at Central High School. The honorable mention all-state selection also added six forced fumbles.
Senior Tevin Wells started five of the final seven games at defensive tackles last season. He finished the season with 18 tackles, including posting three stops against EIU and APSU.
Tyler Evans returns for his final season with the Racers. Evans started four games last season and recorded 13 tackles. He had 4.5 tackles-for-loss and added a sack against TTU.
Junior Jeremy Brackett moves back inside this season after splitting time at end and tackle a season ago. He earned the spot at defensive end against UT Martin.
Junior Kamalie Matthews joined the Racers at semester and will add much needed size on the interior.
Sophomore Jerome Davis spent last season at Garden City Community College after redshirting the 2010 season at Kent State. Davis was a three-star recruit by Rivals.com coming out of Buford High School. He posted 90 tackles his senior season in earning all-region honors.
