The Murray State soccer team hits the road for the first time this season for a pair of contests. The Racers will face Western Michigan on Friday at 3 p.m. in Kalamazoo and will head to Terre Haute, Ind., on Sunday for a match with Indiana State at 1 p.m.
Western Michigan is 2-1 on the season having lost its opener to Illinois 1-0 and winning a pair of games last weekend at the Coastal Carolina Tournament. The Broncos defeated both College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina 2-1. WMU is led by a pair of sophomores in Rachel Chaney and Aubrey Sudomier. Chaney leads the Broncos with two goals and four points, and has taken eight shots, five of them on goal. Sudomier has three points (goal and an assist) and also has five shots on goal this year.
Indiana State is 1-2 in 2012. Beating OVC opponent Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 2-0 and losing to Butler 3-0 and IPFW 2-1. The Sycamores are led by Marisa Windisch's two goals. Windisch also has ISU's lone assist on the year.
The Racers lost their only meeting ever with Western Michigan in 2010, 6-1. Shauna Wicker scored the lone goal for MSU in the contest. Murray State is 2-3-1 all-time against the Sycamores. The Racers lost in Murray last season 2-0. Just four players (Yi Du, Bronagh Kerins, Pribyslavska and Wicker) who started in the game last year are expected to play in Sunday's game.
Murray State is 3-8-1 all-time in road season openers and is 1-4-1 under coach Beth Acreman. The Racers were supposed to open their season on the road two weekends ago against Louisiana Tech, but due to unplayable field conditions the game was cancelled.
