TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—The Racer soccer team held the lead for nearly 70 minutes on Sunday afternoon, but fell in the end on the road to Indiana State 2-1.
Veronika Pribyslavska got her first goal of the season for Murray State (0-4) in the 19th minute, giving the Racers the lead 1-0. Pribyslavska had just substituted in for Jenna Finke when she took Amber Hanson's long pass over the top of the Sycamore defense and chipped the goal in over the keeper's head. The assist was Hanson's first of the year.
Indiana State (3-2) looked like they would knot the contest up in the 68th minute when Shelby Troyer received a penalty kick. But goalkeeper Yi Du saved the shot, preserving the Racer lead. However, Indiana State would strike soon after, as they scored both goals less than two minutes apart to take the 2-1 lead and victory.
Du collected five saves in the contest for MSU, and Jenelle Cunningham led the Racers with three shots in the loss. Freshman Jenna Finke, Halle Pinkham and Taylor Stevens also had a shot apiece. In all, eight Racers played all 90 minutes in the contest. While Megg Hudson and Racheal Foxley played 82 and 81 minutes respectively.
Murray State will return home for its next contest on Sept. 9. The Racers will face Northern Kentucky in a 1 p.m. kickoff from Cutchin Field.
