The Murray State soccer team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a Veronika Pribyslavska goal off of a penalty kick, but it was not enough on Sunday afternoon as the Racers were defeated by UT Martin 2-1 at Skyhawk Field.
Pribyslavska's sixth goal of the season came in the second minute of the contest. UT Martin's Hannah McGowen scored both goals for the Skyhawks, the first coming in the 55th minute to tie the match, the second in the 73rd minute to push UTM ahead for good.
The Racers (3-7, 1-2 OVC) had a couple of good opportunities late in the game to tie it up but UT Martin's Sarah Tompkins made some nice saves to preserve the victory for the Skyhawks.
Jenelle Cunningham, Taylor Stevens and Shauna Wicker each had three shots to lead MSU. All three of Wicker's shots came on goal. The Racers' nine shots on goal as a team were the second-highest of the season. Goalkeeper Latesha Stevenson saved a career-best nine shots in the loss.
Murray State returns to the friendly confines of Cutchin Field next weekend for their lone match of the week as they will face OVC newcomer Belmont at 3 p.m. on Friday.
