After a successful season opener Friday, the Murray State women's basketball team will look to take that momentum on the road against Evansville. The Racers will play their first away game of the season Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville.
The Racers breezed by Robert Morris-Springfield, 101-44, in their season opener Friday at the CFSB Center in Murray. It was the fourth season opening win in six seasons for MSU head coach Rob Cross. The 101 points scored by Murray State marks the 22nd time in program history that the team has reached the century mark in a game and has now done so at least once in each of the last three seasons.
Keiona Kirby led Murray State in the contest with a career-high 25 points, shattering her previous best of 15, set last season at SIU Edwardsville. Jessica Winfrey got her senior campaign off to a hot start, as she notched the game's lone double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Chanyere Hosey also had a career night as she pulled down a game-high 13 boards to go along with four points. Four freshmen rounded out the Racers scoring in double-digits with Julia Fox going 4-for-10 from beyond-the-arc for 12 points, while Taylor Porter, Janssen Starks and Nikia Edom each added 11.

Monday will be the 31st meeting between Murray State and Evansville, with the Racers holding an 18-12 advantage. In the six games since the series resumed in 2008, the two teams have alternated victories, with each winning three games on its own court. The Racers kept that trend alive last season when they beat the Purple Aces, 76-62, at the CFSB Center.
UE currently leads the series, 8-7, in Evansville and has won each of the last four meetings there. Sunday will be just the second meeting between the two teams at the Ford Center, which opened in the fall of 2011, with the Purple Aces picking up a 78-48 victory in the lone meeting in the new facility.

The Purple Aces got their season started right on Friday with an 81-46 win over MSU's OVC East rival Eastern Illinois at the Ford Center. Evansville outshot EIU 43.3 percent to 25.0 percent from the floor and also outshot the Panthers from 3-point range, 23.8 to 11.8.
Kat Taylor and Sara Dickey led five Purple Aces in double figures with 13 each, while Paris McLeod had 12 and Mallory Ladd and Miranda Liles each had 11. Ladd also led her team on the boards with eight, while Sasha Robinson and Kenzie Gustin each added six.
