Michael Marietta started the 12th inning by hitting the first pitch into the gap in left center for a double. After a groundout moved the runner to third, a passed ball allowed the winning run to score from third.
The Breds (0-3) got on the board in the third inning as Taylor Mathews started the inning with a double into the left-field corner. After a groundout by Greg Guest advanced the runner, Ty Stetson collected his first hit and RBI of the season with grounder through the left side.
The Bears (3-0) tied the game in the home-half of the inning as a leadoff single and a walk put the first two batters of the inning on base. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners, Jonathan Davis plated the runner from third with a grounder to shortstop.
UCA manufactured a run in the fifth as Blake Marchal beat out a bunt base hit and proceeded to steal second and third. Davis followed with a slow chopper to the left side of the infield that resulted in an RBI single.
MSU was able to regain the lead in the sixth as Mike Kozlowski singled to left center, Dylan Wheeler singled to right center and Paul Ritzheimer walked to load the bases. After a double-play groundout tied the game, Mathews collected his third hit of the day with an RBI single through the right side.
The Breds increased their lead in the eighth as Rick Linton doubled over the head of the right fielder, and scored on Greg Guest's two-out single up the middle.
The Bears put together a rally in the ninth as a pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with no outs. Forrestt Allday delivered a two-run double into the gap in left center before Blake Marchal tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Sheldon (0-1) was the tough-luck loser as he allowing one unearned run on three hits over 3.1 innings. Connor McClain (1-0) earned the victory after striking out the only hitter he faced.
Cashtyn DeLeeuw was impressive in his Breds debut as allowed just two runs on seven hits over five innings.
Mathews paced the offense by going 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Wheeler added three hits, while Stetson and Brandon Eggenschwiler each added two hits.
The Breds return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon as they open their home schedule against Mid-Continent. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
