Central Michigan Rained Out
The Breds game against Central Michigan on Thursday was rained out. It would have been the first meeting between the teams since April 5, 1958.
19-Run Outburst
The Breds offense pushed across 19 runs in the victory over Mid-Continent. The outburst was the highest run total since the Breds scored 20 runs against UT Martin on April 2, 2010.
Nine-Run Inning
The Breds scored nine runs in the seventh inning against Mid-Continent. It was the highest scoring inning since they put up 10 runs in the eighth inning against SIU Edwardsville in the series opener last year.
First Hit and RBI
In the victory over Mid-Continent, three Breds collected their first collegiate hit, driving in a run in the process. Dalton West delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning, while Ben Lott and Pokey Harris each delivered pinch-hit RBI singles in the seventh.
Eight-Nine Spots Produce
The bottom of the Breds lineup did damage against Mid-Continent as the duo of Noah Zipko and Paul Ritzheimer went 7-for-8 with three RBIs and seven runs scored. Zipko went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and four runs scored, while Ritzheimer was 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Each player collected a double and a single in the nine-run seventh inning.
Vonder Haar Impressive
Tim Vonder Haar made the most of his first start of the season as he allowed just one run and struck out a career-high seven over six innings to earn the victory against Mid-Continent. He worked out of a pair of bases-loaded one-out jams by enticing inning-ending double plays.
Pitchers Walk Zero
Four Breds pitchers combined to not walk a batter against Mid-Continent. Each pitcher threw at least 74% percent of their pitches for strikes. Vonder Haar threw 55 strikes on 74 pitches, while Brocky Downey threw eight of 12 pitches in the zone. John Rafferty threw 12 of his 14 pitches for strikes, while Cody Maerz threw eight of nine for strikes.
Busy Start to Season
The Breds are busy at the early part of the 2013 season as they will play eight games in the first 10 days of the season. MSU will play five home games this week.
On Deck
The Breds hit the road to take on No. 8 Kentucky in a midweek matchup on Feb. 26. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
