The Murray State women's basketball team will look to lock up a post-season bid on Monday night when it travels to in-state foe Morehead State
On Saturday, the Racers lost OVC rival UT Martin, 72-60. After an early 3-pointer from UT Martin's Heather Butler, the Racers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead.
However, the Skyhawks would then take off on a 20-4 run and lead by 12 with less than eight minutes to go. Despite the large lead, the Racers were able to end the frame on a 10-0 run of their own and trailed by just 11 at the break.
In the second half, the Racers got off to a hot start and were able to cut the lead to only six, just over a minute in to the stanza. After MSU's run, UT Martin mounted a 23-4 run to make the lead nearly insurmountable. Murray State was able to cut lead to nine with 1:12 to play, but that would be as close as they would get and eventually fell by 12.
Senior Mariah Robinson led the Racers with 16 points, while freshman Erika Sisk followed closely behind with 14. Kelsey Dirks led MSU in the rebound column in the contest with nine, to go along with five points.
On Monday, the Racers will travel to Morehead State for the 78th meeting between the two teams. Currently, the Eagles lead the series, 41-36.
The Racers are 21-15 all-time against the Eagles at home, but are 14-24 in Morehead. Murray State put a stop to a five-game win streak in the series last season at Morehead by topping the Eagles, 81-78.
The Eagles are currently 9-18 on the year and 5-8 in OVC play. On Monday, Morehead put a halt to a three-game skid by beating Jacksonville State 68-54. Allie Turner led the Eagles in the contest with 28, while Tyler Ituen came off the bench to grab a game-high 11 rebounds.
Terrice Robinson currently leads the team in scoring with 17.3 points per game, while Casey Ryans leads on the board with 5.8. The Eagles currently give up an average of 8.7 points per game to their opponents, while also allowing 11.7 more rebounds per game.
Monday's game will be carried live on Froggy 103.7 FM with Kyle Rogers bringing fans all the action starting at 4:45 p.m. Live stats and a free video stream, courtesy of the OVC Digital Network, will also be available with links available for both at Go Racers.com.
