Dunker Named Champion Of Mascot Challenge

After 13 days of head-to-head matchups and thousands of votes, the inaugural Delta Dental Mascot Challenge presented by the Ohio Valley Conference crowned its winner at halftime of the Racers semifinal game versus Eastern Kentucky at the OVC Basketball Tournament in Nashville. While initial votes kept it a close battle, Murray State's Dunker emerged victorious over Awesome Eagle of Tennessee Tech. In addition to claiming the ultimate mascot bragging rights for winning the 2013 title, Dunker will also receive $1,000 towards Murray State University's general scholarship fund, provided by Delta Dental.
"I can't begin to tell you how excited I am. Not for myself, but for the fans of the Racers," said Dunker through a mascot interpreter. "I'd like to thank the loyal and passionate Murray State fans who helped me claim this honor."
The mascot challenge was determined by internet voting as fans from each Ohio Valley school were encouraged to vote daily for their favorite mascot during the 13-day span. Dunker tallied the most votes with 6,646 followed by Awesome Eagle (3,628) and Bruiser the Bruin from Belmont (2,253).
