Racer Football Begins Spring Practice
3/13/2013 5:54:00 PM | Football
The Murray State Football team began spring practice on a cool and windy afternoon on Wednesday at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
Outfitted in helmets and sweats, the Racers went through the paces on offense and defense as nearly 70 student-athletes start the process of working and improving during their allotted 15 practices.
Head Coach Chris Hatcher was pleased with the first day out for the Racers.
“Being outside with the guys is awesome,” Hatcher said. “We've had a good off-season up to this point. Our goal was to have one practice before spring break which we take next week, we have so many new guys and we have a new scheme on defense.”
The first spring workout for the Racers comes two weeks before the next one March 27 at 3:10 p.m.
“We're more accustomed and in tune with how we want to do things,” Hatcher added. “For the first day I thought we had excellent tempo, we actually got through the practice quicker because the guys were moving around so well.”
“I like spring practice and I was so excited that we got to go practice today,” Hatcher said. “We don't have the pressure of game planning, we can go teach our players and get to know what they're capable of doing.”
MSU will be building toward the annual Blue-Gold game April 20.
All MSU practices are always open and fans are invited to come out to Stewart Stadium and watch.
