Racers Return to Practice After First Scrimmage

The Murray State football team returned to practice Monday afternoon in their first session since conducting a 50-play scrimmage Saturday.
“The speed of practice was not to my liking,” said head coach Chris Hatcher. “I think we had a few guys feeling sorry for themselves after a hard scrimmage on Saturday. By the end of practice it picked up a little bit, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
The Racers continue to install a new defensive scheme under first-year defensive coordinator Dennis Therrell. He is not the only new face on the defensive side of the ball as Davern Williams is in his first season with the defensive line, and Santos Carrillo is in his first season with the linebackers.
“There are a lot of new schemes being taught, and right now we are playing a little slow over there,” said Hatcher. “I do some good things. We are lining up correctly and running to the ball a lot better than we have in past.”
Monday's practice was the first of four scheduled for this week. The Racers return to the field Wednesday at 3:10 p.m., as well as Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
