Murray State University athletics recently held its first “Marathon 'fore' Racers' golf marathon, which raised funds for Racer Athletics programs.
The event was held at Murray Country Club in Murray, Ky.
The golfers in the fundraising event contacted and solicited sponsors to donate money for each hole of golf they were able complete during the day. The goal was for each player to complete 100 holes of golf in one day. The Murray State event had 14 golfers and they were all proud that they played 104 holes of golf. The first shot was hit at 8:00 a.m. and the last golfer finished at 5:15 p.m.
“We had a great group participate in this first-time event for Murray State,” said Paul Bubb, Associate Athletic Director. “Fourteen golfers teed it up and we raised over $8,000 in the one day event.”
“I would like to give special thanks to the Murray Country Club and Marcia Beam for assisting us with this event, as well as the club members,” Bubb added. “We had probably the best weather day we've had this spring and it was a great day to be on a beautiful golf course.”
Those participating in the event and the sport/group they played for included: John Howard (softball); Paul Bubb (Cheerleaders); Don and Beth Bedard (volleyball); Jimmy Greer, Tim Vied and Keith Wicker (soccer); and H. L. Hussman, Brad Corbin, Brian Edwards, Adam Kiesler, Bryson Potts, Rodney Potts and Nick Berkley (track and field).
John Howard had a 10-under-par 406 on the par 416 tournament course (104 holes).
