Offensive Line Continues to Improve

In the fast-paced Hatch Attack offense, it is the skill guys that get all the attention. But, without the work of offensive line, the offense would be stagnant.
The Murray State offensive line is a unit that is progressing as the spring continues. The majority of the line remains in tact from a season ago, excluding the departure of right guard Andy Mahoney and All-OVC right tackle Roderick Tomlin.
The Racers offense has been one of the most explosive in the FCS in Hatcher's tenure. In 2012, the Racers led the OVC and ranked fifth nationally in passing offense, total offense and scoring offense.
The unit is anchored by senior center Harris Bivin. He has started the previous 16 games at center, and may be one of the most underrated offensive lineman in the FCS. Sophomore Corey Gammon will back up Bivin.
The left side of the line remains in tact as junior Zach Littlefield returns at left guard, and junior Drew Kelly returns at left tackle. The duo combined to start 10 of the 11 games together a season ago.
The right side will be new this season with senior Hunter Hogan stepping in at right guard. Hogan started four games (3 at right guard, 1 at left guard) last season after transferring in from Tyler Junior College. Sophomore Robert Olive made one start at right guard last season and will be pushing for playing again this season.
The question mark is at right tackle where converted defensive lineman Kamalie Matthews and sophomore Hunter Holloway are battling for the starting spot. Through the first part of the spring, Matthews has emerged as the starter, while Holloway continues to push for the starting spot.
The Racers will practice three more times this week. The team will return to the field Wednesday at 3:10 p.m. and Friday at 4:30 p.m. before holding a scrimmage Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
