Berry and Powell Named to CFPA Preseason Watch Lists

Murray State seniors Jaamal Berry and Walter Powell were named to the College Football Performance Awards Preseason Watch Lists at their respective positions.
Berry burst onto the scene last year and led the Racer ground attack by rushing 95 times for 675 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games. He added 29 receptions for 234 yards and a touchdown.
In his first game as a Racer, Berry rushed eight times for 41 yards, while hauling in four passes for 44 yards, including the game-winning 18-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He had a breakout game in the home opener as he rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown in a victory over Tennessee Tech. In a victory over #18 Tennessee State, Berry rushed 16 times for 163 and three touchdowns. Powell had a breakthrough season in 2012, as he set new single-season records for receptions and yards on his way to earning First-Team All-America honors from the Associated Press, The Sports Network and the College Sporting News.
He finished his junior campaign with 94 catches for 1,213 yards and 10 touchdowns. He caught at least seven passes in eight games, including four games with at least 10 catches. He also eclipsed the 100-yard mark a school record six times. He began a streak of four-straight 100-yard performances by catching 13 passes for 142 yards against Eastern Illinois. Powell followed it up with 162 yards and a touchdown on 10 receptions against Tennessee Tech, nine catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns against Austin Peay and a career-best 14 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns against UT Martin.
The Racers open the 2013 season Aug. 31 as they travel to face Missouri.
