The Murray State athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of five interns in the external relations department for the 2013-14 school year. Two will work primarily with sports information; two will work with various aspects of video, while the final intern will work with marketing and promotions.
The MSU external relations intern program is an immersion experience aimed to give recent college graduates real, on-the-job experience in preparation for a career in college athletics. The program, now in its fifth year, has grown from just one at its inception to four last season, then growing again, to five, this year. Past participants in the program have gone on to receive jobs with Delaware, Northern State, Texas Permian Basin, William & Mary and Murray State.
Corey Crowley will serve as the department's video and web streaming intern and will be in charge of the internet broadcasts for eight Murray State athletic teams. In addition, he will also serve as the director and producer for the web series "This Week In Racer…" and will coordinate various video projects throughout the season.
Crowley is a 2013 graduate of Murray State with a degree in electronic media. Prior to this season, the Murray native served as a camera operator for the CFSB Center's "RacerVision" production for basketball games and as a producer/editor for the university's weekly television show, "Roundabout U."
Joe Hoffmann will serve as a media relations intern this season and will serve as the primary contact for volleyball, rifle, men's and women's tennis and track, in addition to helping the department with its statistical efforts. Prior to joining the Racers, Hoffmann served as the sports information intern at St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for two years. While with the Bears, he also served as the intramural coordinator and the head cross country coach.
The Medford, N.Y., native is a 2010 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in English. While at Cortland, Hoffmann was a member of the Red Dragon track team and also assisted in the sports information office. He has also worked with the New York Jets as both an intern and a game-day assistant for two seasons, including working the 2010 NFL Draft.
Sarah Marshall will also work in the media relation department this season, serving as the primary contact for the men's and women's golf teams and assisting with the planning and development of the Murray State Hall of Champions. She comes to Murray after spending last year as a student intern in the athletics communication office of Ohio State, her alma mater.
Originally from New Philadelphia, Ohio, Marshall graduated from Ohio State in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in strategic communications. During her time as a Buckeye, she was a member of the varsity rowing team, an experience that culminated with a Big Ten and a NCAA title this past spring.
Amy Pulpaneck will serve as the marketing and promotion intern this season. Originally from the San Francisco Bay area, she is a recent graduate of Azusa Pacific with a bachelor's in media communications. While with the Cougars, she spent two years in the campus events office and three with the athletic department. While working in athletics, the majority of her time was spent on corporate sponsorship and annual donors.
This past year, Pulpaneck worked in the marketing/public relations department of a Southern California sports agency. While representing professional athletes in various media outlets, she worked to increase client marketability through developing a holistic brand in order to create a lasting image.
Ben Tidwell is the final intern this season and will work primarily on the production of the Chris Hatcher and Steve Prohm coach's shows, known collectively as "The Racer Report."Â In addition, he will also assist with the department's web streaming efforts.
The Murray native is no stranger to Racer athletics, having served as a student assistant for web streaming in several capacities last season, including play-by-play, camera operations and production. Tidwell is currently a senior at MSU and plans to graduate this May with a degree in television production.
