NFL Scouting Combine
Murray State recording-setting wide receiver Walter Powell received an invite to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. The wide receivers are scheduled to workout on Feb. 23. The entire NFL Combine can be seen on the NFL Network.
He becomes the second Racer in the last five years to get invited to the NFL Combine. Defensive end Austen Lane participated in the NFL Combine in 2010.
Powell appeared in 10 games this season, finishing with 66 catches for 837 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also averaged 11.6 yards on 16 punt returns, and 31.5 yards on 11 kickoff returns. He returned both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown during the season.
The St. Louis, Mo., native caught at least one touchdown in seven games, while also posting three 100-yard receiving games. He had a breakout game against Missouri State as he hauled in 11 passes for 155 yards and a career-best four touchdowns. He also returned the second-half kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.
In a victory over Tennessee Tech, Powell caught eight passes for 177 yards and two scores. He also added an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Powell set a career high with 15 receptions against Southeast Missouri, falling just one reception shy of the MSU single-game record set by Harvey Tanner in 1967.
Powell closed out his standout career as the Racers all-time leader in receiving yards, touchdowns and 100-yard games, while ranking second in catches. In 43 games, he recorded 208 receptions for 2,650 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also finished with 10 100-yard receiving performances.
