Gabe Wheeler Signs With Racer Golf

Murray State men's golf coach Eddie Hunt announced the signing of Gabe Wheeler of Sikeston High School in Sikeston, Mo.

Wheeler joins the Racers as a freshman in the fall of 2015.

"I'm very pleased to have Gabe join the Racer family next fall," Hunt said. "He's got a great upside and I think he's going to be very good player for us. He's one of the best players in Missouri and he's my first recruit from the state of Missouri. I'm excited to have him join us in the fall."

Wheeler finished his junior season with a third-place finish at the Missouri State Championship with rounds of 74-75=149 at Freemont Hills Country Club.

Other top finishes at Sikeston for Wheeler include a first-place finish at the College Recruits Missouri Invitational with scores of 69-72-71=141 at Tanglewood GC in Fulton, Mo. He also had a runner-up finish at the Big I State Championship in Jefferson City with rounds of 77-72=149 and qualified for the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship at Pinehurst, N.C. and the National Optimist Tournament in Florida. Wheeler still has his senior season to look forward to in the spring of 2015. Missouri high school golf plays its season in the spring.
