Jackson Earns First OVC Newcomer Honor

For the first time this season, Murray State junior Netanya Jackson has been named as the adidas® OVC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday
The Nashville, Tenn., native had a breakout week in which she averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. Against Eastern Illinois Saturday, Jackson scored a career-high 11 points and pulled down six rebounds, as well as going 7-for-8 at the free throw line. On Monday against SIU Edwardsville, she crashed the boards for a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with nine points, narrowly missing the first double-double of her career.
For the week, Jackson shot 75 percent from the free throw line, at 12-for-16, and averaged one assist, two steals and two blocks per game. She tied her career-highs with two assists against EIU and three blocks against SIUE and set a new career-high of three steals, also against SIU Edwardsville.
Jackson and the rest of the Racers have a busy week, as they will play three games in six days. Murray State will begin the week by hosting Southeast Missouri on Wednesday, followed by a trip to UT Martin on Saturday. On Monday, MSU will close out the home portion of its 2013-14 schedule by welcoming Morehead State to The Bank for Senior Night.
