Simmons Fires 2-under 70 In Arizona at Snowman Getaway

The Murray State men's golf team concluded their spring opener at the Snowman Getaway at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.

Preston French led the Racers with a 35^th place after firing rounds of 72-73-72=217 alongside Jordan Smith who had scores of 74-72-71=217. In 73^rd place, after an impressive final round 2-under-par 70, Brock Simmons carded scores of 79-77-70=226. Matt Zakutney had scores of 72-78-74=226 and shared 73rd place with Simmons. Rounding out the field for Murray State was Jared Gosser in 78^th place with scores of 80-73-74=227.

The Racers tied for 14^th in the field of 17 teams and 99 competitors with scores of 297-295-287=879.

Ilinois State and Air Force tied for the lead with team scores of 849. However, Illinois State won the tie-breaker by scoring a final round team score of 273 which was better than the 286 by Air Force. Gonzaga was third with an 855 and William & Mary was fourth with an 858.

Other team scores included Utah Valley (860), Loyola Univ-Maryland (860), Missouri-Kansas City (861), St. John's (866), Indiana (868), Connecticut (872), Utah (873), Tennessee Tech (875), Missouri State (876), South Dakota (879), Navy (884) and SIU Edwardsville (899).

Palm Valley Golf Course played to a par of 72 and 7,015 yards.

The Racers will be back in action at the 2014 Grover Page Classic at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn. (March 10-11).
