Howson Takes Co-Medalist Honor

TEAM RESULTS IÂ INDIVIDUAL RESULTSÂ
The Murray State women's golf team opened up their spring season in style winning the 36-hole event and the medalist honor at the Time Warner Racer Classic at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.Â
The Racers held on to their early lead with an equally strong second round after carding 300-300=600. Southern Illinois took second with team scores of 308-307=615 while Butler came in third after firing rounds of 311-312=623.
Delaney Howson was also able to maintain her co-medalist status with rounds of 71-75=146 to tie Indianapolis' Brianna Scheidler for the title. This will be the second year in a row Howson has won the tournament and her fifth medalist honor as a Racer.Â
Freshman Jacklyn Van Meter earned her spot on the tournament team after firing rounds of 74-75=149 for third place while Sydney Trimble missed the honor by one stroke with rounds of 75-76=151. Minta Yin and Sophie Hillier were able to improve during their second round with scores of 80-75=155 and 85-75=160 respectively.Â
In individual play, Gina Nuzzo tied with fellow Racer Abbi Stamper for 17th with scores of 77-82=159 and 80-79=159 respectively. Rounding out the field for the Racers was Leah Rose Judd who took 25th in the field of 39 players after carding rounds of 81-83=164.Â
"I am very proud of how the girls played today", said Head Coach Velvet Milkman. "What a great way to open up the spring season with a win. Congratulations to Delaney for her back-to-back medalist honor at this tournament and to Jacklyn for making the tournament team. I would also like to thank all of the teams that changed their schedules around to be apart of the tournament this weekend. It was a success and I am glad we had time to play some great golf today."Â
This team win marks Milkman's 39th tournament win as head coach.
Other team scores include Lipscomb (652), IPFW (654) and Tennessee State (677).Â
Miller Memorial plays to a par of 72 and 6,017 yards.Â
The Racers will be back in action March 10-11, 2014 competing at the Lady Eagle Invitational at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.Â
