Football Holds First Practice in Pads

The Murray State football team held its first practice in pads Thursday afternoon at Stewart Stadium. The practice was the final one before the team takes a week off for spring break.
"I thought we had good tempo," said head coach Chris Hatcher. "The hardest thing for us right now is we have so many new faces, and so many young players that were not in the mix last year. Just trying to get them to practice at the speed, with the attention to detail that we require of our guys. That has probably been the biggest challenge we have had to date."
The first three practices were used to put a lot of things on tape to let the players and coaches see what they are working with. The coaches will take the time over the break to look at the film and move some players to put them in the best situation to succeed.
The players all have their plans for spring break, but what is coach Hatcher going to do with his time? "My boy has a bunch of baseball games so I will be around Murray," said Hatcher. "I am hoping to get out and maybe see a couple of other colleges practice and pick some brains. I may even come back with a few new ideas that fit into our schemes."
The Racers will hold their annual pro day on March 18 at 8 a.m. at Stewart Stadium.
