Racers Look to Fill Holes in Secondary

The 15 allotted spring practice will give the Murray State coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate the secondary. This is very important since the Racers will be looking to replace six players who played a significant role last season.
The secondary will have to replace four-year starter Brandon Wicks, safety Corey Addison, safety Darrell Smith, corner Josh Manning, corner Darrian Skinner and corner Darian Yahyavi.
Senior Cadarious Sanders enters his third season with the Racers. He appeared in 12 games last season and recorded 22 tackles and had a pair of pass break-ups.
Redshirt freshman D'Montre Wade impressed the coaches in his first season with the Racers and will push for a starting corner spot. Wade came to MSU after earning all-state honors at Brentwood Academy.
Sophomore William Higginson used the scrimmage this past weekend to separate himself and move into the fourth corner spot. He appeared in all 12 games last season, finishing with eight tackles.
Transfer Shawn Samuels-Connell joins the Racers after spending the previous two years at Marshall. He is spending the spring working battling for a starting spot at corner, while also pushing to be one of the team's kick returners.
Freshman Greg Willard signed with the Racers in 2013, but was greyshirted. Prior to MSU, he was an all-area defensive back at Austin High School
Redshirt freshman Cedric Jones is working at safety during the spring. Jones practiced primarily at corner in the fall, and should battle for playing time once the season rolls around.
Junior DeQuinten Spraggins joined the Racers in January after playing the previous two seasons at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He earned second-team all-state honors as a sophomore after posting 51 tackles, two interceptions and six pass break-ups.
The secondary will get some depth in the fall with the addition of signees Dylan Boone and Quincy Williams.
