Murray State will enter next season looking to replace its all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. Despite the loss of All-America Walter Powell, the receiving stables are not bare.
The Racers return five players who got at least 23 passes last season. Junior Jeremy Harness is the top returner, catching 40 passes for 353 yards and a touchdown last season. He had his best game in the finale against Eastern Kentucky with eight catches.
Junior Janawski Davis returns for his third season after catching 29 passes for 368 yards and a pair of scores. He caught a season-high five passes against Tennessee Tech, while hauling in a career-long 52-yard touchdown pass against Missouri State.
Paul Rice ranked third on the team a season ago with 32 catches for 343 yards. He began his season with five catches for 63 yards against Missouri, before ending it with a career day of nine catches for 124 yards against Eastern Kentucky.
Sophomore Jesse Blackburn got stronger as the season and progressed. He ended the year with 23 catches for 307 yards and three touchdowns. In the season finale against EKU, Blackburn caught nine passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. His final catch was the game winner in overtime.
Nevar Griffin returns for his senior season after hauling in 31 passes for 235 and a touchdown.
Sophomore Mitch Stults made the switch from quarterback midway through the season and caught a pair of passes. Redshirt freshman Zach Shipley had a strong offseason and will push for playing time in the Fall.
The Racers added depth with their signing class with the additions of Jordon Gandy and DeQavius Walker. Gandy had 49 catches for 860 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season of high school football in three years. Walker was selected as the Georgia Region 2-AAAA offensive player of the year after throwing for 990 yards, rushing for 612 yards and adding 650 receiving yards his senior season.
