One sure sign that Murray State football is in the air, is annual maintenance work at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
July is a big month for getting the stadium ready for the season.
Workers from Groves Electrical Contractors Inc., of Madisonville, Ky., were high atop the light standards at the stadium replacing the big light bulbs. Working some 150 feet above the turf, this takes a brave person indeed. Lights will be replaced in the six light banks that surround the stadium.
Other work currently going on at the stadium includes power washing the concrete grandstands
It's all leading to the Racers opening fall camp (July 30) and eventually the season opener against Union (Aug. 28).
The Racers also have home games this season against Jacksonville State (Sept. 27, Family Weekend), Southeast Missouri (Oct. 11, Homecoming), Kentucky Wesleyan (Oct. 25), UT Martin (Nov. 1) and Tennessee State (Nov. 22).

The home to Racer Football since 1973, the 2014 season will mark MSU's 41st in Stewart Stadium. The stadium bears the name of MSU's first coach, Roy Stewart who led MSU for 12 seasons (1932-40, 1942 & 1944-45).
