Big Plays Highlight Final Scrimmage

Big hits and long completions were the story of the day as Murray State held its final scrimmage of preseason Tuesday morning at Stewart Stadium.
The Racers went through their normal practice routine for the first hour, before holding the 60-play scrimmage.
The offense got off to a quick start as CJ Bennett led the team down the field. He started the drive by scrambling for an eight-yard gain, and then hit Jesse Blackburn for 19 yards to get into the red zone. But, the defense quickly changed the momentum as Travis Taylor tipped the next pass into the hands of linebacker Perry Cooper for the interception.
Two series later, safety Shawn Samuels-Connell came on a blitz and put a big hit on the running back in the backfield. Fellow safety Demetric Johnson had a big hit off his own as he met the running back in the hole and knocked him sideways.
The offense finally reached the endzone on a four-play drive that was led by KD Humphries. Humphries started the drive with a 40-yard completion to Jordan Brown, and three plays later hit Kendarian Jennings for an 18-yard touchdown.
Bennett took the field for the next series and led a scoring drive of his own. Janawski Davis started the drive with a 13-yard reception, and ended it with an eight-yard touchdown reception on a screen.
The Racers will return to practice tomorrow morning in helmets at 8 a.m.
