Racers Continue Preparation for 2014 Opener

Murray State continued their preparation for the 2014 season as they conducted their eighth practice of preseason Saturday morning at Stewart Stadium. The team worked out for a little over 90 minutes on an overcast and muggy morning.
"I thought we have had pretty consistent work, and our guys have recovered well from each and every practice," said head coach Chris Hatcher. "I think last night we had as good a jog through as we have had in quite some time, and today we had a very business-like day. I think our team is ready to take it to the next level. We are not where we need to be, but thank goodness we are not where we started."
After working through individual drills and special teams, the Racers closed practice with 11-on-11 drills. The defense made the first big play as Shawn Samuels-Connell intercepted a ball over the middle on the first play. Quarterback CJ Bennett came back later in the series and had a big connection to Nevar Griffin down the sideline.
Safety Demetric Johnson recorded the second interception for the defense on a diving grab off a tipped pass. Â
The Racers will take Sunday off before beginning their final week of preseason camp on Monday at 8 a.m. They will hold their final scrimmage of the preseason Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
