The Murray State softball team continued its strong start to the 2014 fall season on Sunday by sweeping a pair of games at the Saluki Fall Round Robin II at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois. The Racers began the day with a 2-0 win over host Southern Illinois, and followed that up with an 8-1 win over John A. Logan.

In game one, Taylor Odom scored the would-be winning run in the second inning when she hit MSU's first long ball of the fall. In the fifth, Cayla Levins led off the frame with a single and was driven in the next at bat by an Alexa Becker double for an insurance run.

Haven Campbell got her first win of the fall by allowing just two hits and runs over the final four innings. CheyAnne Gaskey began the game with by striking out three and giving up two hits and no runs in the first three frames.

In game two, the Racers over powered the Lady Vols by churning out 13 hits, while limiting John A. Logan to just one. Becker led MSU in the contest as the only Racer with multiple hits by going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double.

J.J. Francis tossed the first three innings for Murray State and allowed no runs, no hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Robinson entered the game in the fourth and picked up the win by allowing just one run on run hit with a strikeout.

MSU will return to fall action next Sunday when it hosts Truman State. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
